What criteria should be considered when targeting online audiences?

The content of the website and the way of presenting the content should differ based on the different targeted audience groups. This is because different groups of internet users have different interests and issues of concern which lead them to pay attention to different types of media content. As an example, companies such as Google, Facebook, Twitter had been collecting users' preferences towards certain issues and using these collected “Big Data” to produce or recommend media content which is more likable by different audiences. Although the “Big Data” method with a focus on trawled algorithms, deciding what stories appear on the news feed first, hence creating trending stories or issues. However this data collection method may somehow cause journalists to only interact within their comfort zone according to preferences and prejudices. Media companies should expose audience media contents that are worthy so that the solidity of media will not be hijacked by the trend of the media world.
