2018 has became a deadly year for journalists, even in democratic countries where press freedom is being seen as an essential for a civilized society.
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) said that 94 journalists and media workers died in targeted killings, bomb attacks and crossfire incidents in 2018.
One of the cases would be the death of Slovakia journalist, Jan Kuciak. Jan Kuciak and his finance was shoot to death in a targeted killing which happened in February last year.
Kuciak was investigating alleged corruption linked to Italian organised crime with the Prime Minister, Robert Fico - a story which would, after his death, bring down the government.
Kuciak's death has emerged around 60000 people held a protest march, which was the largest protest after 1988's Velvet Revolution.
The protest sent shockwaves towards the Slovakia government. Prime Minister Robert Fico was forced to step down to avoid further political crisis.
